Alicante, October 17, 2023 | On October 11th, TERA Batteries Recycling was one of the five companies selected by the Generalitat Valenciana for the aid it grants to companies and organizations with the aim of supporting and promoting industrial projects considered strategic in the Valencian Community. The company has been highlighted as a project aimed at a new industrial sector An emerging vehicle that aims to implement a pilot plant for the disassembly and characterization of electric vehicle batteries at the end of their life useful to facilitate recycling and recovery.

“It is a privilege that a project developed in such a new, disruptive and innovative activity as the recycling of electric vehicle batteries has the public support of the Generalitat Valenciana”, says David Santiago, CEO of TERA.

Thanks to this concession, TERA is positioned as one of the Valencian companies that pursues a series of strategic objectives such as the promotion of the decarbonisation of industry or the decisive boost to an emerging sector. Now, the company is finalizing the details to open its first technology center for the repair of electric vehicle batteries whose opening is expected to take place in November. “It is a fully equipped and prepared, which will be the first to reach our target audience – networks of workshops, official services and insurance companies – and which we will launch before the end of the year,” says David Santiago.

A new way of doing things

The way we move and the means of transport we use are changing, adapting to new scenarios so that society can continue to build a more sustainable and efficient mobility system. However, the incipient advance of electric vehicles, It also brings with it a multitude of challenges associated with the maintenance and conservation of its batteries. With the aim of finding a solution to this problem, and moving towards sustainability and environmental responsibility, TERA Batteries Recycling was created.

Sustainability and responsible innovation: the commitment to a second life

Thanks to the support offered by PCEX Automotive’s extensive experience, TERA Batteries Recycling was born as a technology-based industrial company capable of creating a circular economy cycle for electric vehicles in a sustainable and responsible way, focusing its activity on facilitating the recovery, repair, Reuse and recycling of EV battery materials, giving them a second life and adding value for the new use of essential components in the automotive industry.

In this way, the problem of the removal of these devices as hazardous waste from workshops, scrapyards or dealerships is solved, analysing the materials of each lithium-ion battery and taking care of the separation of their components (deactivation, unloading and dismantling of old modules). With this, it is not only a matter of betting on new sustainable solutions, but to reuse efficiently and responsibly those that already exist.

Value for the circular economy

It is estimated that by 2030 there will be about 147,000 batteries that will need to be repaired or recycled. At the European level, in fact, by 2027 alone there will be around 50,000 tonnes of weight of electric and hybrid car batteries those that will have to be recycled, and will probably be even more by 2030. In this context, TERA, its commitment to the future, sustainability and the environment, anticipates the problem through innovation and the development of solutions that make it possible to take advantage of materials for the manufacture of energy storage units.
