TERA NOMAD Ready to Comply with the Digital Battery Passport

TERA strengthens its commitment to innovation and sustainability by integrating an invisible QR code into its portable power station, TERA NOMAD, in order to meet the requirements of the Digital Battery Passport mandated by the European Union, which will become mandatory starting in February 2027.

According to Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, all electric vehicle, light transport, and industrial batteries over 2 kWh must include detailed digital documentation that enables tracking of their composition, lifecycle, environmental footprint, and supply chain. This initiative aims to enhance transparency in the sector and promote battery reuse and recycling in line with circular economy principles.

Security, Traceability, and Regulatory Compliance

To address this regulation, TERA Batteries has partnered with  Quantum Brand Protection, DuoKey and Partisia Blockchain to develop an integrated solution that brings together the best in security technology, blockchain, and physical authentication.

  • DuoKey contributes its Multi-Party Computation (MPC) technology to protect the cryptographic data of the digital passport, preventing tampering at any stage of the battery’s lifecycle.

  • Partisia Blockchain issues and manages unique NFTs that digitally represent each battery, ensuring a transparent and immutable record from production to recycling.

  • QBP, using its invisible quantum QR tattooing technology (Q-Stamp™), physically links the battery to its digital identity, providing a robust and durable authentication method.

TERA NOMAD: Portable Power with a Digital Identity

Thanks to this technology, each TERA NOMAD unit will feature a digital passport accessible via scan, which includes:

  • Carbon footprint information

  • Material composition and origin traceability

  • Battery performance and health metrics

  • Ownership and maintenance history

  • Details on reuse and recycling processes

“This integration not only meets European regulatory requirements but also delivers added value to the end customer by providing transparent and verifiable information about their battery,” said David Santiago, CEO of TERA Batteries.

Traceability and Transparency: Pillars of a Responsible Battery

Ensuring safer maintenance, enabling reuse, supporting responsible recycling, and reinforcing the circular economy throughout the value chain are the main goals of this implementation. At TERA, our experience has taught us to deeply value traceability as an essential tool for efficient battery management. Knowing the origin of materials, actual performance, and usage history of each battery ensures responsible handling both during its active life and at end-of-life.

This need became evident during our early development of electric vehicle batteries. However, it was with the creation of our portable power station, TERA NOMAD, that we fully realized the urgency of implementing a comprehensive and secure solution: the Digital Battery Passport. This tool not only fulfills regulatory demands but also represents a firm step toward full transparency and a truly circular energy economy.

TERA NOMAD thus reaffirms its position as a future-ready portable energy solution, merging technology, sustainability, and transparency into a single product.
