TERA collaborates with the Alicante Fire Brigade
We recently visited the Ildefonso Prats Central Park to deliver electric vehicle battery components, for the internal course that is being finalized by the SPEIS Fire Department of the Alicante City Council.
In it, they will address prevention and extinguishing processes taking into account the new propulsion technologies of current vehicles, not only for the members of the fire brigade themselves, but also for other agents of the security services
We put donated cells to the test
On a second visit to the fire station we were able to verify the combustion of the cells of electric cars and motorcycles due to impact.
There we were able to attend the extinguishing maneuvers by the fire brigade, to check the possibilities of deflagration by perforation of prismatic cells of electric vehicle batteries.
As seen in the video, after suffering numerous blows and punctures, the batteries did not cause any combustion. There was simply a small emission of vapor caused by a reaction that does not produce any deflagration. This leads us to deduce that EVs are no more flammable than combustion EVs and that this is a very unlikely situation to occur in real-life situations.
From TERA, we are very happy to do our bit and we hope that the material provided will help these professionals to train and learn about their behaviour in different dangerous situations.
Thanks to the Fire Department of the SPEIS of the Alicante City Council for counting on us.
