TERA Batteries signs strategic agreement with CATL as Official Service Provider for battery diagnostics, maintenance, and reuse in Europe

The world is undergoing a profound transformation toward electric mobility and the widespread adoption of renewable energy sources. In this context, effective lifecycle management of batteries has become a key challenge for the sustainability of the energy sector. Collaboration between companies specializing in technological innovation and the circular economy is essential to ensure a cleaner, more efficient, and resource-responsible future.

Among these major corporations is Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL), a global leader in innovative new energy technologies and the world’s largest battery manufacturer, with a strong global presence.

In this framework, CATL and TERA Batteries, a Spanish company specializing in the reconditioning and reuse of electric vehicle batteries, and the manufacture of energy systems from recovered modules, have signed a strategic agreement under which TERA becomes CATL’s official service provider for after-sales operations in Spain. This partnership will allow TERA to take charge of advanced diagnostics, maintenance, and reconditioning of CATL’s batteries and energy storage systems.

This agreement marks a major milestone for TERA, which anticipates a more than 150% increase in its production capacity to meet the growing demand for battery maintenance and recovery services. From a business perspective, the Spanish company expects its annual revenue to grow by over 200% following the signing of this contract, positioning it as one of the leading European players in sustainable battery lifecycle management.

“For us, having a company of CATL’s magnitude, the undisputed global leader in battery innovation and manufacturing, place its trust in TERA as an official partner is a true recognition of the quality of our work, our technological capabilities, and our commitment to the circular economy,” said David Santiago, founder and CEO of TERA Batteries.
“This agreement represents a major reputational endorsement that strengthens our position as leaders in the management and implementation of second-life battery solutions.”

The partnership between CATL and TERA comes at a pivotal time for the electric mobility and renewable energy sectors, both of which are seeing exponential growth in electric vehicle sales and energy storage projects across Europe. According to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association, over 3.2 million electric vehicles were registered in Europe in 2024, a figure that will result in an unprecedented volume of batteries in need of maintenance, reconditioning, or reuse in the coming years. Meanwhile, the European energy storage system (ESS) market is expected to surpass 10 GWh of installed capacity annually by 2025, doubling the demand for battery end-of-life management and maintenance services.

The alliance between the two companies aims to become a benchmark in comprehensive and sustainable battery management in Spain, contributing to the decarbonization of transport and Europe’s energy transition. It will also enable TERA to lead the development of second-life applications for recovered cells, promoting their use in energy storage systems that extend battery lifespan and reduce the need for virgin raw materials.
