TERA Batteries and the "Instituto Tecnológico de la Energía" (ITE) join forces in the RECILION project
The electric vehicle industry is growing more and more every day. At TERA we know this very well, as it is the foundation of our business.
This reality forces us to always be aware of technological advances, but not only of innovation in this area, but also of the consequences caused by these technologies.
Establishing collaborations is a crucial strategy to identify and participate in projects directly linked to our areas of work. As a result of these relationships, TERA was linked to the RECILION project.
What is the RECILION project?
Together with the Instituto Tecnológico de la Energía (ITE), this project aims to apply innovative technologies for the efficient separation and recovery of materials, such as graphite and cathode metals, integrated into lithium-ion batteries, for their subsequent exhaustive evaluation and reuse of these recycled materials, for a second life. In this way, we will be promoting the circular economy, as well as reducing the environmental impact, TERA‘s founding pillars.
The use of lithium-ion batteries in different sectors is growing exponentially, which is a challenge in terms of their correct recycling. It is necessary to study their behavior in depth and develop comprehensive processes to maximize efficiency throughout the recycling and recovery cycle of critical materials. These processes include the dismantling of cells for the characterization of their components, the recovery of graphite and other components in a sustainable way, as well as the use of recycled metals such as Lithium, Cobalt, Nickel or Manganese in the development of new components for batteries with recycled material.
It is important to note that the ITE has the support of the Ministry of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism of the Generalitat Valenciana, through the Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (IVACE), and is funded by the European Union, through the ERDF Valencian Community Program 2021-2027.
Environmental objective
Sustainability through the reduction of impact on our planet is the cornerstone on which the RECILION project is based. Laying the foundations of the circular economy throughout the entire process of component recovery and management gives meaning to the entire project.
The electrification of vehicles is a global commitment to a more sustainable world, but it is not enough on its own. It is necessary to complement this development with efficient actions for the reuse and recycling of materials and components of electro vehicle batteries. Only in this way will we achieve a more sustainable future.
Wherever a research project related to electric vehicle batteries arises, TERA will be there to contribute all its knowledge and infrastructures.
