The technology that makes energy storage smarter

Energy storage has become a key element in the transition towards a more flexible, efficient and sustainable energy system. However, installing a battery is not enough to unlock its full potential. The technology responsible for controlling, monitoring and optimising every process is essential to ensure the performance and safety of a BESS.

At TERA Batteries, we develop our own technology to manage energy storage systems intelligently. Through solutions such as BMS, EMS and our O&M Platform, we integrate different levels of control to improve battery operation, optimise energy use and simplify project management.

BMS: battery control and safety

The Battery Management System, or BMS, is one of the fundamental components of any energy storage system. Its role is to monitor battery status and manage operation to keep the batteries within safe and efficient parameters.

At TERA, we have developed our own BMS in-house, designed to provide advanced battery management. One of its main capabilities is to actively manage the imbalance between individual battery cells during operation.

Cell balancing to improve performance

The cells within a battery can show small differences in voltage, state of charge or behaviour. If these differences increase, they can affect overall performance and system availability.

Our BMS actively manages these imbalances, helping to maintain stable operation across multiple cycles. In this way, it supports both system performance and the overall availability of the BESS.

Continuous monitoring of battery parameters also provides an additional layer of safety, helping to identify situations that could affect system operation.

EMS: turning data into energy decisions

While the BMS focuses primarily on battery management, the Energy Management System, or EMS, takes a broader view of the entire energy system.

Our EMS monitors storage system data in real time and dynamically adjusts control strategies according to the specific requirements of each installation.

Energy and economic optimisation

The EMS includes data acquisition and analysis, energy coordination and economic optimisation functions. This makes it possible to adapt storage operation to different objectives, such as reducing demand peaks, managing energy demand, providing backup power or supporting a microgrid.

It also facilitates integration with photovoltaic installations and other energy assets, enabling flexible coordination between the storage system, PCS, loads and other equipment.

This adaptability is particularly relevant for commercial and industrial applications, where every installation has a different consumption profile and different energy requirements.

O&M Platform: centralised energy storage management

To complete this technology architecture, TERA offers an O&M Platform designed to provide unified, intelligent and adaptable energy control.

The platform enables integrated remote monitoring and lifecycle management of projects from a centralised environment. It also facilitates unified scheduling across different installations and continuous monitoring of system performance.

More control, greater efficiency

The O&M Platform incorporates intelligent optimisation tools designed to maximise system performance and improve economic returns. Its flexible architecture can also adapt to different scenarios, including energy storage, renewable energy, microgrids and electric vehicle charging solutions.

This integrated approach moves energy management beyond simple equipment monitoring towards a connected, automated and results-oriented system.

A technology architecture designed for every project

BMS, EMS and O&M Platform have different functions, but they work together. The BMS manages and protects the battery; the EMS analyses the energy system and optimises its operation; and the O&M Platform provides global monitoring and coordination across projects.

At TERA, we develop this technology in-house to deliver energy storage solutions adapted to the real needs of every installation. The objective is clear: to make every stored kWh safer, more efficient and more valuable.

Technology to make better use of energy

The future of energy storage does not depend solely on having greater battery capacity, but on managing available energy more effectively. That is why intelligence at every level of the system is essential to maximise the value of a BESS.

At TERA, we combine technology, energy storage and expertise to develop solutions capable of responding to the new challenges facing the energy system. Discover our energy storage solutions and find out how we can help you optimise the performance and management of your installation.
