Electric mobility continues to gain ground in Spain. According to the latest data from AEDIVE and GANVAM, registrations of electrified vehicles increased by 19.6% in July 2026, reaching 28,530 units. So far this year, registrations have grown by 34.2%, with 187,319 electrified vehicles registered.
These figures reflect the transformation of the vehicle fleet, but they also highlight new challenges related to one of its key components: electric vehicle batteries.
At TERA Batteries, we work precisely in this area, developing solutions to diagnose, repair, recondition and find new applications for batteries throughout their life cycle.
Electric mobility continues to grow
Passenger cars account for a large part of this growth. In July, 25,520 electrified passenger cars were registered, 20.4% more than in the same month last year. For fully electric vehicles, registrations increased by 26.3%, reaching 11,206 units.
So far in 2026, fully electric passenger cars have reached 76,638 registrations, representing growth of 36.3%.
Plug-in hybrids are also performing positively, with 15,198 units registered in July, up 17.8%.
One in five passenger cars registered in July was a plug-in model. This confirms that electrification is no longer simply a future trend, but an increasingly established reality on our roads.
More electric vehicles means more batteries to manage
The growth of the electric vehicle fleet also means that more batteries will need to be maintained, diagnosed and managed.
However, a loss of performance does not necessarily mean that a battery has reached the end of its useful life. Before replacing it, it is essential to understand its actual condition and identify the source of the problem.
Diagnostics as the first step
At TERA, we have specialised technology and procedures for advanced electric vehicle battery diagnostics and determining their State of Health (SOH).
This analysis helps establish the actual condition of the battery and determine the most appropriate solution: continuing to use it, carrying out a repair, reconditioning specific components or finding a new application.
This allows us to follow an approach based on analysing before replacing.
Repair and reconditioning to extend battery life
Not every battery experiencing a problem needs to be completely replaced. Accurate diagnostics can identify imbalances, modules or specific components affecting its performance.
Repair and reconditioning can restore batteries and extend their useful life, making the most of components that can still deliver reliable performance.
This approach will become increasingly important as the number of electric vehicles grows and, with it, the need for specialised after-sales services.
From electric mobility to energy storage
When a battery is no longer suitable for its original application in a vehicle, it may still retain enough capacity for other uses.
This is where the concept of battery second life comes into play. At TERA, we work on recovering and reusing components to find new applications before reaching the recycling stage.
One of these applications is energy storage. Recovered components can be integrated into solutions designed to store and manage energy, provided that their condition and characteristics make this possible.
In this way, a battery can continue to deliver value even after completing its first useful life in mobility.

Ready for the growth of electric mobility
July’s figures show that electric mobility is advancing strongly in Spain. With electrified vehicle registrations up 34.2% so far this year, the number of batteries on our roads will continue to increase.
For TERA, this growth means working across the entire battery life cycle: from diagnostics and repair to reconditioning, second-life applications and recycling.
Electric mobility does not end when a vehicle leaves the dealership. We also need to consider what happens to its components during and after their useful life.
At TERA Batteries, we develop electric mobility and battery management solutions, as well as energy storage solutions and specialised electric vehicle training for companies and professionals.
