Electric Battery Passport, the new mandatory document for electric cars

The Battery Pass is a concept that seeks to implement a “digital passport” for electric vehicle (EV) batteries and other devices. Its main objective is to improve the traceability, sustainability and efficiency of the life cycle of batteries, thus promoting the circular economy and transparency in the battery industry.

The digital battery passport or “Battery Pass” will come into force on February 18, 2027, establishing an electronic registry for all cells introduced into the European market.

Why is this battery tracking so important?

This document will include crucial information about the battery, such as its composition, manufacturing process and charging data, which will facilitate responsible recycling and promote an effective second use.

“The more product traceability there is, the better it will be for us, as it allows for better management and maintenance of the batteries”, David Santiago (CEO of  TERA).
